I tuned in at 8:30 PM IST on the 20th of January and flipped through all the channels to find the one which was giving the best coverage of the event. I sat watching with gleeful excitement. I watched the man walk in calm, poised and confident. I watched him taking the oath with his wife looking on. I watched him fumble ever so slightly and grin. I watched the crowds cry and cheer and chant 'Obama! Obama!'. I cheered with them. His first speech as the president - even though it wasn't as powerful as his victory speech - was poignant and full of hope.
As I watched, I fervently wished and hoped that I would soon see the day that I would do the same for an Indian leader. To believe in the person enough to cast my vote, to wait along with a crowd to hear the acceptance speech, to cheer on, to feel hopeful as a nation under their leadership, to tune in to watch live coverage, to wait to see the schemes and policies deviced, to place complete faith in the leadership, to also say 'Yes, we can!'.
President Obama, Yes, you can!
India - Of course we can!!

we surely can! cheerz mate!
A true democracy like India can never reach the level of unification the citizens desire, for many complicated reasons. Sad, but true!
@roop:
Cheers!!
@Brat:
Intellectually I agree with you. India is very very diverse and rarely ever united. We are divided on region, food preferences, religion, caste, skin colour and what not.
But where I don't agree with you is your lack of hope. Your acceptance that things will never change. I maybe foolishly hopeful but I would still choose to believe this! :)
@Sravanthi: I won't say that things will never change. I only say that we need drastic changes to get to the position we want to. We also need to stop focusing on the little things between states, and focus on things from a national perspective! :-)
